Founded in 1994 and based in Montréal, Québec, Alternatives, Action and Communication Network for International Development, is a non-governmental, international solidarity organisation. Alternatives works to promote justice and equality amongst individuals and communities located in the North and the South. Active in over 35 countries, Alternatives supports local, community-based initiatives working towards the greater economic, social, and political rights of people and communities affected by poverty, discrimination, exploitation, and violence.

APC Latin America and the Caribbean ICT Policy Monitor <lac.derechos.apc.org>
A component of the APC's Communications and Information Policy Programme, the Latin America and the Caribbean ICT Policy Monitor's goals include facilitating the involvement of civil society organisations in the development of information and communications technology (ICT) policies. The monitor seeks to promote information societies based on social justice and human rights. The project's ultimate goal is the recognition of the access to and use of the ICTs as a basic human right.

ArabDev <www.arabdev.org>
Based in Egypt, the ArabDev foundation was formed by its member NGOs in the Arab region to use information and communication technology (ICT) to promote existing development projects and for innovative developmental initiatives. ArabDev builds the ICT capacity of poor communities and local grassroots organisations to help them attain better work and life opportunities. ArabDev is established on the principle that working with and through local NGOs, using their existing developmental capacities and established linkages with local communities is the most effective way to disseminate and employ ICT.

BlueLink Information Network <www.bluelink.net>
BlueLink started in 1998 as a joint initiative of environmental NGOs from different towns in Bulgaria. It aims to create a free forum for exchange of information in order to support sustainable development, democracy and civil society. BlueLink offers a broad variety of internet based services for all who are interested in issues related to environment, natural resources, and sustainable development in Bulgaria and abroad.

Bytes for All (B4All) <www.bytesforall.org> / <www.bytesforall.net>
Bytes for All is a networked space for citizens in South Asia. It experiments, highlights and organizes debate on the relevance of ICT to development activities. Bytes for All’s work is done by volunteers who have willingly teamed up from different countries in South Asia, making this initiative's efforts at collating information relevant to the region widely appreciated within and beyond the region.

Colnodo is a non-profit organisation in Colombia aimed at generating new information and communication dynamics through ICTs. Colnodo has been, since 1993, providing communications services to civil society organisations and individuals working for development and social equity in Colombia and connecting Colombian citizens to the global information networks.

Ethiopian Free and Open Source Software Network (EFOSSNet) <www.efossnet.org>
The Ethiopian Free and Open Source Software Network (EFOSSNet) is a non-governmental organisation established by a group of individuals interested in the use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in Ethiopia. EFOSSNet seeks to create an environment where FOSS is utilised to enable the sustainable development of the country.

Founded in 1996 in Nigeria, Fantsuam Foundation is a non profit organisation aimed at pioneering gender and youth focused micro finance and ICT services and development in rural communities of Nigeria. Fantsuam Foundation seeks to contribute to poverty alleviation through a multi sectoral approach that includes the empowerment of women and youth in rural areas through ICTs.

Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA) <www.fma.ph>
The Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA) is a Philippine non-government organisation formed in 1987 to enhance the popularization of development-oriented issues and campaigns through media-related interventions, social communication projects, and cultural work. Since 1996, FMA has focused on the strategic and appropriate use of ICTs to enable citizens and communities assert their communication rights and defend their right to information and access to knowledge, towards progressive social transformation. As a part of this, FMA engages in public interest policy development and advocacy for democratic infocomms governance.

IT for Change <www.itforchange.net>
IT for Change (ITfC) is a network of development professionals engaged with the discourse on information technology for development. Based in Bangalore, India, ITfC's advocacy efforts are geared towards initiating debates on the politics and potential of ICTs for development, conceptualising and promoting those perspectives that emphasize participation, local context and content, equity and empowerment and transcend techno-deterministic frameworks.

Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet) <www.kictanet.or.ke>
The Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet) is a multistakeholder network created to increase the legitimacy and social capital needed to bring key people to work together with government around the ICT policy formulation in Kenya. KICTAnet aims to become the focal point for building multi-stakeholder consensus on ICT Policy, strategy and initiatives to catalyse reform and development in the ICT sector by enhancing collaboration amongst the stakeholders in Kenya.

LaNeta is a civil society organisation created in 1991 in Mexico. It provides internet service for Mexican civil society: non-governmental organisations and activists working in areas of human rights, environment, fair trade, sustainable development and women's issues. Being the Mexican APC node, LaNeta promotes linkages between Mexican NGOs and the global community.

LINK Centre, University of the Witwatersrand <link.wits.ac.za>
The LINK Centre, a leading research and training body in the field of information and communications technology (ICT) policy, regulation and management in South Africa, focuses on capacity building in the public sector and development arenas through quality training, applied research and consultancy services. LINK is a founding partner in Research ICT Africa! and hosts the South African Chapter of Creative Commons.

Nodo TAU <www.tau.org.ar>
Nodo TAU, a non-profit organization based in Rosario, Argentina, is aimed at training social organisations (including trade unions, schools, environmental organizations, cooperatives and communitarian centers) in the use of new information technologies. By the training they strengthen the institutional action and create a dynamic response among organizations fighting against poverty and exclusion and in favor of environmental care, human and social rights. Nodo TAU's main goal is "digital inclusion for social inclusion".

OneWorld Platform for Southeast Europe (OWPSEE) <www.oneworldsee.org>
OneWorld Platform for Southeast Europe (OWPSEE) began in 2003 as an online news initiative linking the countries of the region. Registered as a foundation in 2005, OWPSEE has grown into a recognized information service organisation and partner for social change, collaborating with around 200 partner organisations, unified in efforts to impact faster democratic developments and positive social change within civil societies of the region, and cooperating through interactive platforms at local, national, regional and international levels.

Pangea is a non-profit organisations based in Barcelona, Catalonia. Pangea’s slogan, “Comunicació per a la Cooperació” (communication for cooperation) expresses the organisation’s main goal: to enable and promote access to information and communication tools to organisations and collectives that work for change through development with equity and social justice.

Rede de Informações para o Terceiro Sector (RITS) <www.rits.org.br>
RITS (Network of Information for the Third Sector) is a private, autonomous, non-profit organisation founded in 1997, whose mission is to serve as a virtual network of information focused on strengthening civil society organisations and the social movement by fostering and supporting the exchange of information, knowledge and technical resources. RITS seeks to promote the interaction of initiatives and projects through effective use of information and communication technologies (ICTs), particularly the internet.

StrawberryNet Foundation <www.sbnet.ro>
StrawberryNet is a Romanian NGO network aimed at promoting "the protection of the environment, sustainable development, democracy and human rights" in Romania, using electronic telecommunication and information and communication technologies. It is organized as a self-coordination body of NGOs providing or using information and communication services. StrawberryNet providing various services, including web publishing applications, personalised discussion lists, support for actions and campaigns.

TIC.pe
Tic.pe is an initiative of civil society organisations in Peru committed to the application of information and communications technologies with a social perspective. Tic.pe is formed by Alfa-Redi (<www.alfa-redi.org>), the Consortium for the Sustainable Development of the Andean Ecoregion/InfoAndina (CONDESAN) (<www.condesan.org>) and the Peruvian Centre for Social Studies (CEPES) (<www.cepes.org.pe>).

Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) <www.wougnet.org>
Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a non-governmental organisation initiated in May 2000 by several women's organisations in Uganda to develop the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among women as tools to share information and address issues collectively. WOUGNET's mission is to promote and support the use of ICTs by women and women organisations in Uganda, so that they can take advantage of the opportunities presented by ICTs in order to effectively address national and local problems of sustainable development. WOUGNET activities are carried out under four main program areas: Information Sharing and Networking, Technical Support, and Gender and ICT Policy Advocacy, and Rural Access.
